      The Dominican Republic is the second largest island in the Caribbean with a 48,000 kilometer extension and not only the highest mountains in the Caribbean (Duarte Peak with 3,175 meters: over 10,000 feet above sea level), but also the lowest point in the Caribbean (Enriquillo Lake at -47 meters below sea level).
