Dominican Republic successfully participates in tourism fair
The number of buying companies which attended the Dominican Annual International Tourism Exchange DATE 2012 jumped 24% compared with last year.
Speaking in the fair held from April 17 to 19, Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia said the tourism sector posted record growth of around 9% in the first quarter, with a total of 1.4 million tourists.
For Asonahores president Julio Llibre the sector's performance was positive in 2011, and remains optimistic on projected growth in tourist arrivals to all regions for the first months this year.
In the event hosted by the hotels and tourism companies grouped in the Asonahores, the official stressed the investments in hotels and roads in recent years, such as the construction of the Coral Highway, slated to open by late July, and the Tourist Boulevard of the Atlantic, which he affirms will significantly boost visits to Santo Domingo.
