2010 Census determines that more men than women

The Dominican population totals 9,445,281 people, 50.17% of them men and 49.83% female, according to official end of the Ninth National Census of Population and Housing 2010, released this morning by the National Bureau of Statistics.

When presenting data, the Minister of Economic Planning and Development Temistocles Montas said that, contrary to what is believed, men outnumber women by totaling 4,739,038 of the inhabitants, and 4,706,243 women.

Montas also said slowing population growth, the rate porcentualizar only 11.11% in relation to the 2002 Census.

The largest age group is between 35 to 64 years, with 2,709,758 people, to 28.7%. We are children between 0 and 9, representing 1,835,166, to 19.4%.

Economy Minister noted a slight decrease in the number of children in the country since the 2002 Census was 1,945,525.

The provinces with the highest percentage of growth are Santo Domingo, La Altagracia, Santiago, San Cristobal and La Romana, and the National District.

Santo Domingo is the province with the largest population, 2,374,370 people reside in this, with a growth of 30.62% over the 2002 Census. There are also 6 million 662 thousand 862 homes.

The population of Dominican Republic is more settled in urban areas, living in cities 7,023,949 people, representing 74.36%.

The amount represents an increase over 2002 when 5,446,704 were living in cities.

The lifting of data IX National Census of Population and Housing was conducted in December 2010.
